Dexter uses artificial intelligence (AI) in two features: Dexter AI, which answers your questions, and Smart Import, which reads vet documents and suggests details for your pet's records. This page explains what they can and can't do.
In short
- Dexter AI and Smart Import give general information. They are not a vet.
- They can be wrong. Check what they say, and always ask a vet about your pet's health.
- In an emergency, contact your nearest emergency vet straight away. Don't wait for an answer in the app.
1. Not veterinary advice
Dexter AI, Smart Import, reminders and other information in Dexter are general guidance only. They are not veterinary advice, diagnosis, treatment or a prescription, and they don't create a vet-client relationship. House of Dexter is not a veterinary practice. Only a qualified vet who has examined your pet can diagnose a problem or prescribe treatment.
2. Emergencies
Signs such as difficulty breathing, collapse, seizures, heavy bleeding, suspected poisoning, a swollen or hard belly, repeated vomiting, or being unable to pass urine need a vet immediately. Contact your nearest emergency vet or animal hospital straight away.
3. AI can be wrong
AI can produce answers that sound confident but are incomplete, out of date or wrong for your pet, your country or your pet's breed. Vaccine schedules, medicines and rules differ between countries. Use Dexter's answers as a starting point for a conversation with your vet, not a replacement for one.
4. Smart Import
Smart Import reads a photo or file of a vet document and suggests the details to save. It can misread handwriting, dates, batch numbers and doses. Nothing is saved until you check and confirm it, and you're responsible for checking it against the original document. Keep your original records.
5. Medicines and doses
Never start, stop or change a medicine or dose because of something Dexter AI said. Ask your vet. Some human medicines and foods are poisonous to pets.
6. Reminders
Reminders depend on your phone's settings, notifications and connection. Don't rely on them alone for critical medication.
7. How your data is used
To answer you, Dexter sends your question and relevant details about your pet to our AI provider. Our Privacy policy explains what is sent, where, and that our provider doesn't use it to train its models.
8. Feedback
If Dexter gives an answer that is wrong or unsafe, tell us at support@houseofdexter.com so we can improve it.
